KKnD Xtreme is a strategy game that was published by Melbourne House, developed by Beam International, and came out in 1997. It is a real time strategy game with a twist because it is completely unique and very interesting. The plot of KKnD Xtreme is very simple.
A nuclear war has commenced upon the surface of the earth. There were some lucky people that were able to escape into underground tunnels and create a flourishing civilization. Some people got left behind on the surface during the nuclear war and the ones who were not lucky enough to die, turned into very ugly mutants. These mutants were able to take what technology and surroundings and create a civilization of their own, even though it was a powerful yet very chaotic and unorganized one. At the beginning of the game, you can choose to be either side, the surface mutants or the under ground normal humans. Both sides are after the same thing (the same thing that causes many wars today) and that is oil.
If you choose to play as the human race (the survivor army), your troops will consist of riflemen, flamethrowers, sappers, four wheel drive pickup trucks and cool tanks. If you choose to play as the mutants (the evolved warriors), you get much weirder (and cooler depending on your taste) and monstrous troops. Some of the warriors on this side include (but are not limited to) missile firing crabs, acid spitting scorpions, gun turrets that are mounted on mutated elephants, and bombardier beetles.
I am pretty sure that if these characters and creatures where animated better that they would look much cooler than they do. The battlefield and the maps of the terrain were done very well because the maps were very detailed. The game does have the use of veteran units down pat and it also has above average computer intelligence for its time. The sound and graphics are repetitive but you can not expect too much from a game that was trying to beat an original in its series. It does have single and multi-player modes. This game also has the capability of being able to be played in multi-player mode on your computer against your friends or against multiple players online.
I recommend this game for those who like old school bad graphic horrible sound real time strategy games. This game suits either those who like to be heroes or those who like to be the bad guys and beat up on the good guys.
