Boppin' is published by Apogee Software, but developed by Accursed Toys. The game is a bit boring in my opinion. The villians are trapped in jewelstones and you have to get a right combination of two jewelstones so the villians will get free again.

There's a violation warning in the begin of the game. I never found the violent but I think they are meaning this: when your game is over, the figure will kill himself.


The graphics are good, either is the gameplay and sounds.

At first glance Boppin’ seems like a simple children’s game. The graphics would be deemed as “cute” and the colors are very vibrant. While the game is visually pleasing, the sound effects are very basic. However, it all seems to blend together very well to make a decent game.

Boppin is a puzzle game that is really more difficult than its simple nature lets on. The game starts off with an intro that explains where the characters from Boppin’ are from. It tells the player that they come from “a strange alien world” and shows Yeet and Boik’s story of how they came to be in this game. Credit definitely should go to the people who came up with the script. It practically verges on philosophical which further proves that this game is intended for an older audience, despite its cutely graphics and vivid coloring. The game player is then told that all the monsters from all the games in the world have been stolen and that the only way to get them back (so that the heroes in these same games can remain heroes, for if there are no villains what will they save others from?) is for Yeet and Boik to solve puzzles. What one has to do with the other will never be fully understood. The evil sounding Hunny Bunz is the final monster that needs to be defeated, which is left till the end, of course.

The game is a little reminiscent of bejeweled, your basic match up the gems and score ordeal. There is also an eerie similarity to Sonic the Hedgehog in reverse…the matched-up gems turn into the villains (in Sonic the evil animals turn into the once cute furry friends). Our alien heroes also like to make some interesting sounds once they win a puzzle. Yet they sound more like a whimpering dog than someone who is happy they are on the road to saving video games.

The game play is fairly simple although figuring out how to position the gems is really challenging until the player gets the hang of it by practicing. There are some funny moments in the game, such as the various monsters that are freed (a man in a black business suit for one) and the 80s getup Yeet and Boik wear. They are nice touches of humor.

All in all, while the intro makes the game seem like you’re in for a fun adventure, once you start playing the game you realize it’s a different sort of puzzle game. The Miami Vice inspired alien heroes need you so get going.
