I think everybody must have heard of the Titanic. In this small text-adventure game you have to bring yourself back home in the United States.

The game starts at 14 April 1912. You're standing near the front of the Titanic on the starboard deck. Now you have to start playing. The game is not very easy because you have to type the commands, but you will learn them soon and after that the game is nice to play.

As a middle school computer teacher, I used Beyond The Titanic in my classes to teach kids logical thinking skills while showing them a bit of computer history at the same time. Having grown up with 3-D graphics, my students would be initially be turned off by the text-only interface and lack of whiz-bang effects. But they all quickly got into it, and begged for more time to solve it.

The game is not a standout, but it´s a good example of the many quest/dungeon text adventure games of it´s day. The environment is nicely developed: involved and expansive without being overbuilt or intimidating. Gameplay is very good for the most part--difficult and demanding, but never illogical or futile. The game is slightly buggy (at least the copy I used). For example, pressing the button in the sleep chamber always caused the game to crash, so don´t do that (it´s not necessary to win, anyway).

Overall, this game is worth a try, especially if you have never played a text-based adventure game. I can´t count how many kids asked me for a copy of the game to take home.
