Below the Root

Below the Root is one of the first games I played on floppy discs. My parents bought the game for us kids for entertainment and I have to say, it is absolutely amazing. I still remember it to this day. It was a game that my entire family would play and has a lot of strategy involved. It appeals to all generations and to boys and girls alike.

The graphics may be a little old school by now, but considering how long ago it came out, it was very advanced for the time. I would rate this game a 9 out of 10 and I only deduct one point due to graphics. This game got me into playing video games over 15 years ago. I think I was about 10 when it came out and I was so impressed I bought all of the other Windham Classics that were available at the time. I have done searches for the game on the internet from time to time with no luck so I was very excited to see that it is making a comeback.
Many of the adventure/strategy games evolved from this one and you will be able to tell when you play. I love the fact that you can choose your character as well as select from a number of actions in order to progress your game. I highly recommend this game to youngsters who are interested in puzzles and challenges.
One of my favourite things about this game is that you don’t need hints or a walkthrough to win the game. All you need is trial and error type strategy. So many games that are out now are so complex that you almost have to buy a guide or look for information online. This game will bring you back to the beginning of video games, yet will keep you stimulated and interested to this day. It is the kind of game that you will want to keep playing until you win.
When you pick different characters you start in different places so each time you play, it’s like a new game. This one is definitely a keeper! I am so happy it is available once again. It will open you up to a whole new world of adventure and is extremely family friendly so it is appropriate for all ages.
