Keen Dreams is the sequel to the famous Keen series. It is also known as Keen 7, but a better name is Keen 3.5, because this game is the step between Keen 1, 2, 3 (the old looking) and the newer Keen 4, 5, 6. Besides that, Keen Dreams is made by another company than the other Commander Keen games.
The intention of the game is the same as in the other Keen games. You have to finish the levels. On your way to the end of the level, you have to kill the enemies. This all sounds like the game is exactly the same as the other ones, but it isn't. Because of its good story and the good gameplay you will also like this game when you like the other Commander Keen games.
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online I really liked this game, I like platform games. This game is better than all the Keen games I played, except for Keen 4. It has multiple new levels and the style is different than all the other Keen games, that's what makes the game so nice to play. I didn't know that the original game name was Commander Keen 7 - Keen Dreams. I just thought the name was Keen Dreams.
Like the title says, you are in Dreamland. Actually you are taken to Dreamland because you were punished and sent to your room. When you fall asleep you are taken to Dreamland. You'll have to collect flowers and fight (as always) against the enemies. In the end you'll have to fight a big sausage (?), a large enemy therefore. You don't have a pogo-stick either.
The game works well but not all the time. Sometimes it freezes up when I start the game. In the game you can jump very high and that's most of the time handy. There are some difficult levels, sometimes you even can't see the enemy. The Keen character is much bigger than it used to be, so are the enemies and the vegetables he has to eat and the chocolate bars and the platforms, in fact everything is larger. So if you jump high you can't see what's beneath you, in the other games you're not jumping that high, except for Keen 4.
The sound effects are not that bad but not good either. As far as I remember there is no music within the game. I think the enemies are weird. The graphics are also very good, on my computer :). Even for this game, like for all the Keen games, there are cheats. The cheats for this episode are hard to find but with a little luck you will find some cheats. Cheats can sometimes be handy. Like in one level, you will have to find a key and go down to the exit, but there are a lot of enemies and it's a very big level so cheats can really help you. The Keen Dreams game has a lot of new enemies, and not the green monsters we used to know from the other Keen games, like sausages (?), green mushrooms and so on... The game is not my favorite but its fun to play and you are a time busy to finish the game, but it's not annoying or irritating like most of the games. It is a must if you really like old games and platform games.
