Batty is a remake of the classic Break Out game by Fraser King. You have to play the ball to the blocks on the top of your screen so they will disappear, but if you don't let the ball bounce on the paddle on the bottom of your screen, you will lose a life.
The game is very simply made, but it doesn't make the game less fun to play. What I mean is that the ball is an ASCII-heart and the rest of the game is made with ASCII-characters. If you play Batty in DOSbox, it will run fast, but you can change the gamespeed in the game.

Batty is a game that is very similar to a game I used to play for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It is extremely similar to Arkanoid: Doh It Again.
The game play consists of bouncing a ball off a paddle and into a pile of colored bricks. As the ball hits the bricks it will destroy them and eventually you will be left with a blank screen, and that is how you know you have beaten a level. As you can see the premise of the game is identical to other "break-out" style games on the market. So you break all of the bricks and then move on the next level, and you must be now left wondering is this all that I can do? Well, not exactly. There are power-ups that will help you along the way! Some power ups will lengthen your paddle, and another will allow the ball to stick to the paddle allowing you to line up a shot and have at it. These special power-ups can be obtained by hitting certain blocks, just like other games in the same genre. Like Arkanoid: Doh It Again, Batty also supplies an extra challenge by allowing on screen enemies, known as aliens, to interupt your attempt at breaking all of the balls on-screen. These enemies, or aliens if you prefer, can be taken care of by bouncing a ball right off their own heads. One last thing I would like to mention about the way the game is played is the use of a points system. A set amount of points will be received for each block that is hit, and you can tempt your friends or family to try and beat your personal high-score! Maybe they are the true masters of this game...not you.
The graphics for this game are very, very simple, but that doesn't take anything away from the game itself. Obviously this game doesn't measure up to the standards of today's gaming, but was certainly OK for its time. Moreover, there is really no place for flashy graphics in such a simple game.
This game is an addictive puzzle type game that should be fun if you enjoy that type of game, however, if you prefer the platformer or first person shooter games this may seem a tad bit boring for you. This game will satisfy you if you like games like Arkanoid, Tetris, Space Invaders, Frogger, or any classic game that is repetitive, but addicting. This game will most certainly do the trick if you are searching for something to hold you over until the next big X-box 360 or Wii release.
