Death Rally is like other top-down racing games, such as Super Speed and Slicks 'n' Slide, but Death Rally has something more.

While playing the game and driving races you have to pick up money and other objects which will give you money. With this money you can buy weapons and other stuff to destroy your opponents in the next races.

Death Rally is a good racing game with some action in it, although real racing fans can choose to switch off the weapons in the game.

I first played this game when I was about thirteen years old and was immediately hooked. It was one of the first racing car games that I ever played. It is always the the case of the saying 'sometimes the simple things can be so much fun'. This is the case with this game. Ever since then, every time I have had to upgrade my computer I have always searched it out to download it so I could play it again. For a DOS based game the graphics are impressive, considering how long ago it was introduced.

It might seem boring at first due to the first car you get being so slow on the track and you feel like it will take forever before you win your first race and are able to upgrade your car or buy a newer, faster one. Persistance is the key, along with a bit of clever strategy.

The first time I played it I, like most people probably, bought upgrades for my first car as soon as I had enough money. I just wanted it to be faster and better so I could win some races. Eventually I won enough to buy the next level car and continued on in the same manner until I got to the fastest car with all the upgrades and become champion. However this took me a large number of races to do this, so I tried different ways to reach the end while competing in the least number of races possible. This including foregoing some upgrades and waiting until I had enough money to buy the next car. Eventually I found that the best way to reach the end of the game in the shortest number of races was to try and win as many races with the original car you start racing with, without buying any upgrades, until I had enough money to buy the fastest car. Then I would race that one, only then getting the upgrades for that car.

The turbo boost was a handy addition, expecially if you fell behind a little bit, but I found it most useful to leave most of it until the end and try and slingshot past the other cars and take the win. The mines you could drop were good if you were out in front, but always used to catch me out when I was trying catch up, expecially when I had the turbo boost going.

All in all Death Rally is a great racing car game that I have and will continue to enjoy. I have also got my kids playing it with the same level of enjoyment.
