There are several games that try to test your keyboard skills, but Baby Type is quite unique. You guide your character (a baby?) through a bunch of places by pressing the correct keys in a predefined sequence. Both timing and accuracy are important to succeed. Even if your keyboard skills are excellent, this game is still a nice challenge.

DOKA both programmed and released the gaming title, Baby Type several years ago. Baby Type is an edutainment application that uses the action and adventure of a standard side scrolling platform game to help users better master the useful skill of typing. While Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, and derivatives of that game, are likely the most popular typing tutor titles on the market, Baby Type proves that Mavis Beacon does not have an exclusive corner on the typing tutor market. Baby Type is a fun application that takes a more simplistic, gaming, and juvenile approach to typing. While Mavis Beacon is very goal and lesson oriented, Baby Type…in an effort to appeal to younger typists…focuses more on the gaming aspect of the application.
In Baby Type, the user will control a fairly run of the mill action hero. As he makes his way through a very standard side scroller, he will have to jump, duck and move. He will also have to combat and avoid the many enemies that are rushing at him as he navigates each consecutive level. In order to do this, the user will have to quickly and accurately type the letters as they appear on the screen. Each time he makes an error, the red error indicator will gain a notch. When it is filled, the gamer’s hero will die by making some sort of misstep on the screen.
Baby Type is a very engaging and colorful game, another draw for younger gamers. However, it is still a fun play that will also interest beginning typists of more advanced ages. The levels of the platform game become more and more difficult as the game progresses, and more experienced typists will eventually meet their untimely demise as the demands of the game become more rigorous.
With the needs of the modern world gearing more and more toward computerization, keyboard data entry is becoming an invaluable skill. The younger students start learning to type, the more efficient and proficient they become. Baby Type is an excellent way to start kids off in the right direction, learning how to type accurately and with speed while playing a fun action arcade style of game that will keep them interested and, therefore, practicing. As with any other platform game, the more the players practice, the better they will become at the game. In this instance, however, the game is teaching them a skill that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives, instead of simply hand eye coordination and reflexes.
