This game is similar to the old game Lites-Out. Your object is to turn off all the lights on the grid. This is not easy as when you turn off some lights, others come on, you need to think hard and figure out the best strategy to turn all the lights off. This game expands on the concept by offering different game modes. Very primitive ASCII graphics and sound. An overall decent game that may get frustrating (needs lots of patience and thinking).
This is the same as the other Lights Off except the grid is larger, therefore the game is harder.
If you like puzzle games get this game now! If you're not much into puzzles then this game may drive you batty.
Reviewer: Erin3392 Lights Out is an electronic game. A grid of 5 by 5 lights light up when the game starts. A set of these lights (chosen at random or by a preset puzzle pattern is switched on. Pressing one of the lights will toggle it and the four lights adjacent to it on and off. The aim of the game is to switch all the lights off in as few button presses as possible.
The game is inventive and innovative for the time and can provide hours of fun and concentration. It really makes the mind work and boggle. The game is very simple and easy to use- the interface is extremely user friendly and it can be played by people of all ages. It is a fun little game designed to exercise the brain and it has even been adapted for use on the Apple Iphone making it portable and fun for travel or just for a few minutes break from work! The game really makes you feel tense because the difficulty grows gradually and before you know it you’ve been playing for hours!
What is really great about this game is the fact you can create your own puzzle by pressing the mode button to change to create mode. All you have to do is choose when and how the lights are affected and then to see whether it works all you need to do is press the solve button to check it.
Although it may seem like a silly game the reason behind its genius is just that- because it is silly and simple to use, the frustration is even worse and the competitive streak is heightened tenfold. It can in no way compare to the more complex and more graphically enhanced games that have a story and plot to them but that nevertheless makes the game worse. In fact, it can almost match complex games through the time and effort people put in to it and the concentration required to fully enjoy it. Actually, concentration can sometimes not be required because it can be played purely for entertainment or even used to compete against friends.
Ultimately, Deluxe Lights Out is a good game that can be used for entertainment and for brain training. There is a mathematical element to the game which some may enjoy and others may find frustrating- but the frustration makes you want to play the game better and makes you want to win- the whole purpose of playing games in one!
