Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold is the sequel to Wolfenstein 3D. Wolfenstein 3D took you to the past. Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold takes you to the future when Dr. Pytus Goldfire wants war on earth. You have to fight against an army of aliens and bizarre creatures, which are created by the Dr. Pytus Goldfire using genetics. He has found a way to replicate pure gold.
He uses this for funding his plan. Your task is to infiltrate his buildings and to stop him.
The graphics are in 3D and the game is really nice to play thanks to its nice graphics and good sounds. The gameplay is very good too. You can use the mouse and keyboard to walk around in the areas.
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold is an archaic game based on the DOS operating system. Its gameplay is similar to that of Wolfenstein 3d. You play Blake stone and are faced with challenges such as aliens, guards, and the evil Dr. Pyrus Goldfire. The Dr's organization, STAR, plans the conquer Earth. Your job? To knock out all six of STAR's installations and free the grip of Dr. Goldfire on all humanity.
As you travel through each level, be on the watch for helpful informants. Dressed in lab coats, the blend in very well with the scientists that aren't helping you. You need to talk to all of them, as they give you information, ammunition, health, and credits. Use the credits to buy food and drink from the vending machines. Beware of the scientists that aren't helping you, as they will alert the other guards of your presence and shoot you.
Much like Wolfenstein3d, there are several items you may pick up. Weapons, ammunition, gold, credits, money bags, food...etc. Unlike Wolfenstein 3d, there are several new features that you haven't seen. Exploding crates, chain-exploding mines, one way doors, 20 unique enemies, five weapons instead of Wolfenstein's four, smart characters who will grab your ammo if you aren't careful, and 66 total levels.
Overall, gameplay is smooth, almost realistic for the time that this game was released. Pc Magazine reviewed the game with the following quote: "The first-person viewpoint and smooth movement will have you peering sideways into the monitor' to see if there's another monster around the corner."
While this game might not be for everyone, this game did receive good reviews from all of the major video game reviewers back in the day. I would recommend this game to anyone who remembers the way video games used to be played, or to anyone who hasn't experienced this style of gameplay which far exceeds that of Wolfenstein 3d. Unless you have an older computer that can handle this game, you need to download DOSBox as well so you may experience gameplay in the way that it was intended. Classic Adlib/Soundblaster sound is a must for this game, if you don't have a way to experience it, it won't be worth it for you.
So sit down, download Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, and enjoy!
