Duke Nukem, the best selling game of Apogee, has good graphics, an excellent gameplay and good sounds. That is why lot of people were -and sometimes still are- addicted to this game. This is the first episode of the Duke Nukem serie.

The story behind this game is classic, but nice. It is your mission to stop an evil madman, Dr. Proton. As you might have guessed, this evil man wants to take over the world.
He uses his Techbots for this. You are controlling Duke Nukem in this game. First you go deep into the earth, later on you are going to his station in space and after that you will travel to the future.

A lot of people played this game. If you never played this one and if you like action games: it's really worth the download!

Duke Nukem is a great game. It first came out in 1991 and was the first of many Duke Nukem games. It was designed by Apogee. When I was doing research I found out that some copies actually say the name is Duke Nukum (which a U instead of an E). This was because at the time the creators had thought there was someone else in the world that had that name copyrighted. So they had to change the name. It was later found out that it was not a copyright and switched back to the name that is used today.
The basic idea of this game is to defeat the great evil boss, Mr Proton. In this game you are a super built guy who runs and jumps around shooting cameras and enemies. Duke can also do a cartwheel jump. You have to find different coloured keys in order to get to different places on each level. Each level also has bonus power ups or additions which can be found laying around or in different coloured boxes with question marks on them. These include the grappling hook, power boots, and health. The graphics on this game were significantly better than most at that time. This is because many different things can be seen on the same screen at the same time i.e. you can shoot enemies, lasers can be on, and enemies can be moving about and so on. As for the music and sound, they are pretty much standard for the time. Nothing too interesting but not bad enough that you have to mute it to play it! The only dislike that I have for the game is that it is too short. There are only 3 main levels; the first is set in Los Angeles, the second is in space (on the moon) and the third is set in the future (1997). It has just enough entertainment to keep both children and adults occupied for several hours.
My sisters and I used to play this game constantly on our old MS DOS operating system. Which brings me to another good point of this game. Nine different people can have a game saved at any given time. This came in handy with my sisters and me! For many years I have been trying to remember the name of the game so I could play it again. Now that I have found it I can tell you that I will be "hooked" on it again. Download now and enjoy this game!
