Grand Theft Auto is an well know action game. I think everybody who played it likes the game very much.
You're a gangster in a strange city and you haven't got any money. You can earn money by just do some "jobs" for the local mafia. The first jobs are simple; steal a car and bring it to the place where the mafia leader wants it. After that, you have to kill some people with weapons you will find at the side of the way. But watch out! There are some very bad guys, called cops. When you are killing to much people, stealing to much cars or whatever, they will come with their cops-cars. And offcourse you can kill this cops and after that steal the cop car. These cars are faster than all other cars...
Grand Theft Auto is the first game in a large serie. After this game they created GTA London, Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto 3 and GTA Vice City. This first edition of the hugely popular grand theft auto series is still a great game in its own right. I always used to enjoy this game when it was first around, and to track it down again has been really great.
The game itself is very involving and fun to play, as you play the role of a criminal who is commissioned to do various missions or "dirty deeds" ranging from bank robberies to kidnapping to assassinations to many other crimes.
The great thing about this game is what makes the whole series so popular, and that is the ability to roam freely around the city, finding hidden areas and items, or making a little money on the side by selling stolen cars to the crooked dock crane operators.
There are three cities this game takes place in, which you gradually unlock as you complete "chapters" in each city. The game sucks you in, and you will sit on the edge of your seat trying to complete that last mission, just so you can unlock the next chapter.
An alternate slower rate can be taken as you explore the city and complete the missions in your own time. The majority of the missions have no time constraints, so the player can also explore other aspects of the city while completing a mission.
The other main aspect of this game is the police presence, which, depending on your skill level and knowledge of the city, will determine whether you succeed or fail your current mission. The police are constantly patrolling the city for criminals, determined by a "wanted" rating. The player begins with a wanted level of zero, which means he is an innocent civilian in the eyes of the police. All this can quickly change though, as the player commits crimes, and raises his wanted level. Crimes committed can be anything from hitting another car to killing a police officer. The seriousness of the crime determines how much the wanted level is raised.
As the wanted level rises, the police will increase in their efforts to arrest or kill you. For example, when the player's wanted level is at one, only police officers who are in the general area already will give chase, whereas when the wanted level is at the maximum of four, the police will send every available unit to the players location, as well as setting up roadblocks manned by police with automatic weapons, which can be somewhat interesting to get past.
All in all it is a great game with many, many hours of playability, much more than most games.
An essential download, even if it is just to see where the GTA series all started. ENJOY
