Icy Tower is a crazy game. It features Harold the Homeboy who discovered a huge tower and wants to climb it. It's your task to help Harold. You can simly make a small jump and go to each platform one by one, but you can also run a while and then make a big jump. The last will give you extra points, which is good for your place in the highscores list.
This game is really addicting. Every time you reach a high level and accidently die, you want to stop, but something makes you try it again, and again, and again..
Reviewer: Gjalks Icy Tower (Miscellaneous) is very simplistic in its graphics, in that the only graphics that are in the game is Harold the Homeboy(The character), and the background, which is simple in itself. Though the game isn't black and white, it has very colourful graphics at some points, even though it's a very simplistic. The storyline is about Harold the Homeboy, trying to get to the top of the tower, even though I'm not sure why he has to get up there. The game revolves around you (Harold the Homeboy) trying to get to the top by jumping onto different level of platforms. While you are doing this the screen starts to move with you, so it becomes a timed game in that if your too slow to jump from one spot to another, or if you fall of a platform, you'll lose the game.
The controls are very simplistic in that the only keys used really are the space bar and directional buttons. The game has sound to it, it’s a techno type music and gets old after playing for awhile. The game has a very simple timer on the upper left corner. You can acquire a super jump, to go up even faster, this can be achieved when you make double or triple jumps and the combo bar on the left side of screen fills up to do a combo.
The game is scored by each platform you jump to you get 10 points, and they're little boxes every 10 levels telling you how many levels you jump (every 10 platforms). The game has a replay setting, and also the ability to save a good game replay,(weird in that you can't save where you're at but can save replays. Also during the replay you can speed it up and pause and stop it at any point, which is useful if you have a good run. The game for my computer wasn't glitch, and my computer is pretty old, that’s a plus.
The game is also very easy to learn took me less than a minute to figure it out with out reading the directions(more like 10 seconds). The game is actually more enjoyable that it seems. When I first started playing this game I thought it would be boring. It wasn't because every time I messed up and fell off the platform I wanted to do better.
The part of the game I liked most was the unique character Harold in that he looks like a hoodlum but wears a sweet looking hat, the music was also a good point even though it gets repetitive. Also the simplicity of the game was for me nice in that most games today are very complicated and require a lot computer space and memory, this game doesn't require much at all. This game is good for people who just want a game that is easy and fun.
Reviewer: louiep01 Icy Tower is classic gaming action. It’s reminiscent of a simpler time, when men could be men and games could be games. It’s not bogged down with storylines, complicated controls, or even checkpoints. It’s simple and fun: You play as everyone’s main man Harold the Homeboy and you climb a tower, an icy tower. That’s it. You’re not climbing to rescue a princess or to save the world, you just climb and that’s all that matters.
As you’d expect, the basic gameplay is quite straightforward. You can move left, right, and jump as the screen slowly scrolls upwards. Platforms appear in randomly generated locations and you jump from one to another. The screen won’t scroll back down so if you’re too slow or miss a platform you just fall into an abyss and die. The graphics and sound get the job done and give the game a certain charm. The mood is set quite well in fact, and so you probably won’t even think it’s odd the first time that a trail of stars shoots out of Harold when you perform a combo.
There are basically two ways to play—you can either be lame or cool. If you want to be lame, you move slowly and jump to the nearest platform. If you play like this you can probably last 5-10 minutes and get pretty high up (although the tower is infinitely high so it’s all relative). This way isn’t too fun to play and really boring to watch. If you’re cool, you keep Harold constantly moving to build up speed and momentum. There is a jump meter which greatly increases the number of points you get for combo jumps. The jump meter increases with each consecutive jump, however, it drains very quickly, so the only way to keep in high is to continuously move and jump. If you can keep it up, soon you’ll be jumping amazingly high and the screen will have to scroll very fast to keep up with you. This is much harder than it sounds because you can only see so far up the screen so you must be able to quickly react to where new platforms appear and be ready to recalculate your jumps to land on them. Once you get going you really can’t stop jumping because you’ll slide off platforms (remember, they’re ice) and you’ll lose your momentum and so won’t be able to jump as high (or do cool flips) and sometimes the nearest platform will be quite high above you and you won’t be able to reach it unless you’re moving at full speed. And, of course, if you stop jumping you’re lame.
Generally the game will last only a few minutes, even if you’re really good. That’s part of what makes it fun though. While Icy Tower is moderately fun to play by yourself, it’s really much more enjoyable to play with a friend or two. Everything in the game becomes tremendously funnier with another person watching, and because the rounds are short, no one gets bored waiting for their turn. It’s easy to waste an entire afternoon trying to top each other’s scores, and you’ll enjoy every minute of it.
