Goofy GoKarts is a weird kart game that reminded me of the good old classic DOSgame Wacky Wheels. There are six goofy looking characters on gokarts that drive a race of five laps on a crazy track with all kind of weapons and helps on it to pick up. Get a boost, a mini-gun, oil to put on the track and some other crazy things.
Unfortunately this is a playable demo, but it might bring you some fun if you like this style of racing games.
Reviewer: linkin182 When first opening Goofy Gokart one may think it to be the most ridiculous eye sore known to man. After becoming engaged however one may change their tune.
The game begins with an option of screen resolution, something not enough games have anymore, especially old school classics. It’s nice to have a choice between 32 bit and 16 bit colour every once in a while. The game can have rather long load times, but this is due to the fact that there is so much content within the game itself, something to be addressed a little later.
The controls are basic, something many buffs of old games will find comforting in this age of complex panels. Simply needed are the directional keys; up, down, left, right; and the Space Bar. To one immersed in the ‘New Age’ of gaming it may seem as if the graphics are not quite up to par. But for all us who remember the Golden Age of video gaming the graphics are a welcome treat. Not EGA or VGA the graphics are 3D, but still hold the classic game nostalgia we all grew up with. Colors blend beautifully together, and sprites interact well with the environment. One may be more reminded of an N64 classic rather than further back however.
The concept of the game itself is ‘win by whatever means necessary.’ I found myself thinking more than once that this game seems an awful lot like Mario Kart for the Wii. There are a number of different Gokart designs, each with its own unique character riding on the back, six in all I believe. Once the game starts the main role of game play is to race around the track, with a slight twist. Scattered around the track are certain items which can be put to good use in assuring you victory, this being where the space bar comes in handy. From rockets and lasers, to oil spills and (random) pigs, you can shoot, stick, and blow the opponent off the track.
What I find most enjoyable which seems unique to this game however; is the ability to use more than one weapon simultaneously. For instance I have found myself in use of both a laser, and a gatling gun at the same time to my advantage.
The most annoying aspect of this game I found was it takes it a little over board when your opponents attack you. For instance there is an item which becomes, essentially, a bunch of bouncing land mines, sending anyone who hits one flying (quite literally flying) out of control. When this happens to the player I found myself hard pressed to get turned around again and back on track, especially when getting hit by more than one of these mines.
All in all this is a good game, and I say it is worth a try to anyone interested.
Reviewer: mmyllar Goofy GoKarts is a racing game similar in ways to the all-popular Mario Kart series. It features several different karts each with its own separate driver. En route around the course, you can collect weapons or defenses that allow you to take out the competition or protect your own hide! Most of the weapons are silly, although some are quite hard to aim properly. In addition to weapons, there are items that can protect your kart from your enemies and items that increase your speed. Items range from Oil Slicks to Ninja Stars to Booster Rockets.
There are computer-created courses where you can tackle AI opponents, which are surprisingly difficult. You can plan out your own tournament or just set it on random.
The graphics aren't great by current standards, but they do the job and never slow the fun of the game. The sound isn't particularly spectacular either, but once again, it does not detract from the game - even when it does become a little repetitive. There are not many background scenes behind the tracks, but that isn't really a problem either because Goofy GoKarts will keep your gaze glued to the road and floating item blocks. The area in which the game really shines above even the Mario Kart series is the custom track builder. You can create any track you want and take on your CPU opponents. From grueling swerved roads to seemingly endless straights, anything that you can imagine, you can race. The original Goofy GoKarts features a split screen two-player mode in both the tournaments and the custom maps. The split screen can be difficult because of screen-spying and distracting movement, but this is normally only a problem for new gamers. Hardened veterans will be unphased by the split-screen drawbacks.
One complaint is the flimsy kart design. The "go karts" seem like little more than an axis with tires and a bobble-headed driver. A little bulk in the karts would have gone a long way in making the game feel more serious. Seriousness, however, was probably not the main concern of a game with "Goofy" in the title.
Overall, this is an addicting little racer that will probably pull you into wanting to play it, even with today's competition. If numbers represented scores, this would be a cool 6 out of 10.
