You are Duke Skytripper, space explorer extraordinaire. You were confronted by a group of hideous greenish colored slime-creatures. You recognised them instantly as Martians. How they got to this backwater planet you don't know, but one thing is certain. They are not happy to see you.
In the levels that you play these slime-creatures will try to kill you, but you have to run away and shoot them. In the beginning I found this game a little hard but when I found out Duke Skytripper can also be teleported to another place in the level and he has a gun. Use these tricks by pressing F1 and F2 and the game will get a lot easier.
Reviewer: jonstewart Muck Men from Mars is an instant classic which is still just as fun today as it was in the 90s. Why play this game, you ask? Well, for the same reason you play Mario on the Nintendo, because it's fun. The key to a good oldie is your ability to achieve perfection. Try that with the complex multi axis controls of modern shooting games. The play has very basic graphics and follows in the tradition of the single dimensional shooters before it, but one things for sure, like Tetris, you'll have hours of fun trying to beat your old records.
In this game you play the role are Duke Skytripper, a space explorer who is armed to the teeth with a blocky looking futuristic weapon to use against the scary beasts you will confront. You are uncertain of how you ended up at their planet but you can not go back now! These hideous greenish colored slime-creatures are not your friends and the only certainty is that if you don't unleash the wrath of your automatic weapon on them, they will have no problem unleashing their slimey stuff on you. The levels follow the classic shoot-em-up and run style. You must shoot them as they appear in order to save your life.
This game is truly in the tradition of arcade classics. Fast fingers and a swift mind will make quick work of the beasts in the first few levels, but near the endgame a little luck can not hurt. The controls are very simple and intuitive, making the games accessible to everyone, including those who are not typical gamers. Forget about controlling two joysticks at the same time while firing four weapons, loading ammunition and aiming the cross hairs. This game is all about speed and dexterity.
On the negatives the scenery and the story line is a bit stagnant, but what can you expect...it’s a classic game made before the complex story lines became the big thing. Quite frankly it’s refreshing to just jump into a game and start shooting without worrying about a real mission and various complicated plots which do not make any sense.
In short, this is a game for everyone which will entertain for a little while but definitely not excite those who are not into the minimalism of classic simplistic games. Try it out, if you want a quick thrill!
