Your goal in Blastocyst is to destroy the comets which you can see on the screenshot. Use arrow keys to move and SPACE to fire. Sometimes the controls are a bit hard and the ship doens't really what you want it to do, but that's something typical for space shooting games.
The big green bar shows your ship's power, which is depleted by impact on your shields and by the use of your blaster. If you spin your ship very quickly, it can fire a devastating spray of bullets, but you must use this feature sparingly as it consumes a lot of energy. If the green bar disappears completely, the slightest impact will vapourize your ship. Blasting the smallest fragments will leave green dots behind which you can collect to recharge your ship.
Reviewer: burhino Obviously borrowing its very simple concept from the 1979 classic Atari game, Asteroids, Blastocyst is a rather easy to understand and play game. Fly around in a space ship while asteroids barrel roll across the screen. Simple concept. But simple concepts are usually incredibly addicting. Your objective is to demolish those asteroids while avoiding being smashed by any number of them. But it's not a one-shot-one-kill type of game; just like Asteroids, each time you blast away at the flying space rock, it merely breaks into smaller fragments and you must rid the screen of those as well. And yes, they keep on pouring in in classic style.
Being stationary and blasting away, though, might not be the best move. Though it is fun to spin rapidly while firing quickly; it is a cool sight, and it can have devastating results. Each time you shoot your weapon, your green energy bar depletes. Do not worry though, the game has a way of replenishing that energy. Oh so cleverly, your ship’s energy can be refueled by the little green capsules left behind in the wake of an exploding asteroid (weren’t the makers of your ship so very thoughtful?). Go get the energy capsule to continue shooting and continue on your rock-destroying, blast friendly way of life. But be warned, because if your green bar runs out, and you get hit by even a small asteroid, you are a goner. And you only have one life to live.
If you have played Asteroids, you have played this. This has the advantage though in that there are a few additions to merely evading flying rocks and shooting. You have a shield, a powerful weapon, and can get some good speed going to dodge those rocks.
As the story goes, you are Earth’s best (don’t let us down). Maneuvering and blasting is your specialty. So when the Earth is threatened by large asteroids, it is a no-brainer to send you up. (Oh, and did we mention that it is just you, no one else? Yeah, we only have one of you and that is apparently all we think it should take to defend Earth from hundreds of asteroids.)
All in all, the game is worth playing. Fun, addictive, and simple. You can compete against yourself – first beat the game, and then continue playing it to see if you can beat it fast. Or, just use one hand and see if you can beat it… That is a bit challenging!
