Szalontai István, author of Diplo, emailed me and asked me if I could add his game to the gamelist of DOS Games Online. He also sent the game by email so I could play it. I opened the file and I was surprised by the quality of this game. Some games of amature gameprogrammers are really bad, but this one is good.
You are a guy walking in the levels and you have to pick up the all diamonds in the level. While you are trying to do this, there are some creatures that will try to kill you. If they hit you, you will die and you have to start over again.
All in all this isn't a bad game and you should really try it, it's only 35 Kb :)
Reviewer: gorbayley This is both an infuriating and addictive game. The aim is simple, collect all the gems and / or gold and then you will move onto the next phase.
Herein lays the problem. You have to avoid the strange little green, bearlike monsters that will lose you a life if you touch them and then there are those rotten little red balls that randomly bounce around the place. Then just to add to the problem if you touch the white posts you also lose a life and of course if you jump into the chasms by mistake. Again another life lost.
This game is very addictive you know what you have to do but the further you go into it the quicker your reactions have to get.
It is a very simple game but it just gets you in.
The graphics are good and it runs without too much drama after unzipping on XP. The controls are just as simple. left arrow for left, right arrow to go right, up arrow to either jump or climb trees, ladders or rope ladders and the down arrow to go down the ladder, trees and rope ladders.
There are blind corridors, and a fair few leaps of faith which usually cost you a life to find out about.
There is no straight forward route on any of the levels and you will quite often find yourself having to back the way you came just to complete a level.
A couple of levels will drive you nuts having tackled the rotten red bouncing ball and the strange green bearlike things only to find yourself in a blind chasm with no way out and you have to sacrifice a life and start over trying to remember which way you went to avoid going that way until you are ready to pick up the last gems and gold.
The game gives you the feeling of playing in 3D, with the background moving separately to the foreground.
The green bearlike monsters move more or less the same each time you play a level, but the rotten red bouncing balls will take a different route each time you play except at the very beginning of a level, where everything starts of the same each time.
The trees are very aggravating with some having level areas that hold you up and then suddenly an area of no support. The green lawn like areas aren't much better, if they are between blocks they just let you through back to the area underneath which is usually a long way from where you want to be.
All in all, it's a good, simple game that just gets you in.
