Final Soccer Challenge is a nice soccer simulator. There are six players on the field. Three players for the blue team and three players for the red team. There's one player in each team which has a circle around it. That's the player who is controlled by the human player, the other two players are controlled by the computer. So, you can play this game in multiplayer mode.
The graphics are nice for such a dosgame and the gameplay is good too. In the beginning it might be hard to get used to the controls, but it you will know them good enough to win after a while. If you like soccer, this is a game you should try.
Reviewer: sbmarti2 I played this game a lot when I was a kid, and absolutely loved it. I can remember spending hours on this game, simply because it was one of the best soccer games I had. The best part was that although the game would get boring after a while, you would want to pick it up again after a month or two. The best parts of the game were it's simplicity- it was only three on three, with the human controlling one player, and the computer controlling the other two, so it was really easy to just pick up and play. I also found that the passing and the shooting was easier than on a few other games I've played. Finally, as I've mentioned above, the replay value on this game is much better than other sports titles that were released at the time.
The game definitely had a few cons to go with it though. The movement was a little crude, as all soccer games used to be, and it was very frustrating to see a play develop, try to do it, and then fail because the game didn't figure out what you were trying to do. Also, I found the lack of goalkeepers to be a big problem, because scoring was sometimes too easy. I don't understand why the developers didn't stick one in there- given the mechanics involved, it wouldn't necessarily be very difficult. That seems to be about it for the main deficiencies of the game, although I would have preferred five a side, because then you can introduce formations into the game- whether they were 1-3-1, 2-2-1, or 2-1-2, or whatever (the first number is defenders, the second is midfielders, and the third is forwards, or strikers). I guess I'm getting a little in depth with my criticism though, as the game was simply meant to be an arcade soccer game, and it was very good at that. I guess my line of thinking is that if the developer could get make a good arcade soccer game, it wouldn't take much extra effort to make the game a very decent arcade soccer game with just that added extra bit of professional soccer involved. Add in a goalkeeper (mentioned above), and the game could have been terrific instead of just very good.
Overall, I'd give the game an 8.5 out of 10, because even though I've agonized over it's shortcomings, I've spent a lot of hours on it, and enjoyed all of them.
