3D Cube is the best 3D cube puzzle available. It operates exactly like the real cube puzzle, which is sold in many toy stores. This game also displays a 2D layout across the top of the screen so that all sides can be viewed at once. So no problem with navigation! Start by having the computer mix up the cube. Each face of the cube may be rotated to change the position of the colors. It is up to the you to move the colors back to their original positions, so that each face of the cube contains only one color. It is actually easier than it appears! The entire cube may be rotated about the x,y, or z axis. To rotate counterclockwise (as viewed from the top/left) press x,y, or z on the keyboard. Extra easy controlling!
To rotate a cube face counterclockwise, press the number printed below the 2D display of that particular face.(Note:the center color never changes. Therefore, "1" always turns the face with the blue center, etc.). If using a mouse, click with the cursor directly on the 2D display of the face you wish to turn.
A very long game to play for it size! (I finished it in 4 weeks!!)
Reviewer: herogers08 The game 3D Cube is basically an electronic computer version of the popular game from the 1980's known as the Rubik's Cube. I would see this game as an early 90's attempt at reviving the Rubik's Cube. Since the popularity of Rubik's Cubes is once again growing, playing this game is a good way to learn how to solve one. If you don't already own a Rubik's Cube, this game is an adequate substitute to buying one.
This game was also good when I forgot my cube, but had my computer with me. But if you do own a cube, don't bother with the game as a replacement. It is difficult to get the cube to turn the correct way. I was also never able to figure out how to rotate the orientation of the cube to see the other sides. The limited view makes it difficult to completely solve the cube.
The 3D Cube game is a simple flash game that is easy to reproduce if you know simple Java coding. I've seen it coded in less than an hour by a bored high school student. The newer coded version of this game is better because of the completely mouse focused usage. This version, from 1994, involves usage of the keyboard as well, which to me could be considered a draw back. But for those you cannot code or don't have the time, this game is good enough.
If you really are a Rubik's Cube enthusiast, you would have fun with this game.
