The intention of Capture the Flag is, as you might have seen in the name of the game, is to capture the flag of your opponents. There are two teams, a blue one and a red one. Each team gets a number of movements, which they can use to move their teammembers. Who captured the flag as first, wins the match.
The graphics are nice, though I don't get excited about it. Maybe it's not my kind of genre I like to play, but I haven't really enjoyed it. You might try it, maybe you do like it.
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online Capture the Flag is a military strategy game that is based loosely on the traditional children’s game bearing the same title. It was created for play on the personal computer with MS-DOS operating systems by Richard Carr and was released in the very early nineties. It can be played as a single player game, but is much more stimulating and entertaining as a multi-player game, more similar to the way the classic children’s game was intended to be played. As a multi-player game, the user can play against the semi-competent AI or against other human opponents via a network, modem, or e-mail.
The artificial intelligence, as alluded to above, has its good points and its bad points. The game is programmed to minimize the bad points, which seems to work. In a standard game of “capture the flag,” the point of the competition is to infiltrate the enemy’s territory and take their flag back to your home base, then defend it for a predefined amount of time. That would require an AI that understands both offensive and defensive maneuvers. Instead, the game has become more simplified, allowing for a more competent AI that does less, but does it better. The user simply has to move one of his units onto the tile containing the flag in order to capture it and win the game. He does not have to return the flag to his own territory and defend it. Because of this slight variation in the game, the computer opponents always have the same goal: to intercept the enemy and defend their flag. While this makes the game more simplistic, it allows for a better play against more competent computer adversaries.
The game play is equally as simple as the concept. It is more of a military strategy or tactical game than a children’s game. It also has the potential to last for hours, depending on the position of the enemy’s flag. The user will have to user strategy and tactics in order to maneuver his limited number of teammates, or soldiers, toward the flag. He can utilize anything from a sneak attack, run and gun rush tactics, flanking maneuvers, decoys and so forth. The approach is limited only by the imagination. There will be different terrains to help out the plan of attack, which also adds more depth to the game.
Overall, this is a good strategy game that has been converted from a childhood classic, just like Dodge Ball, Hangman, and numerous others.
