In the mythical age of Great Guilds, the elders of the Guild of Weavers have disappeared from the home island of Loom. Now young Bobbin must learn their powerful magic spells and venture forth to save this guild.
That's the story behind this game. It's not my kind of story, but if you like what you just read, I'm sure you'll like this game.
Note: The zip-file is a sampler of LucasArts Graphic Adventures and it includes also two other LucasArts games: The Secret of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online Loom was probably one of the greatest fantasy/fairy tale games ever, created by a wonderful company named Lucasarts. This was like old-school guilds and weavers, and the storyline about a banished weaver is great.
Also the graphics are wicked nice, being from back in the 80s. The 256 color scheme, as well as the wonderful background makes loom a wicked game. The music is also an integral part of the game, seeing as it is based of the weavers of music, and Loom nailed that perfectly.
Also the gameplay of point and click is pure genius, by using the magical notes of the E, C, E, D notes you could open a door. This was very important, as it added a depth of gameplay never before experienced by other click and play games.
The only problem with this game is that it is so extremely easy, and the difficulty does not change the easiness of the game. The replay value is very low, so it isn't fun to play multiple times. Here’s some back-story of the game now.
In a time very long ago, the Great Guilds were separated people because of their occupation. The weavers were the exact same. There were guilds for blacksmiths, clerics, shepherds, and weavers. These were like modern day unions. The guilds guarded the secrets of the guild with their trade, and they forbade marriages outside of the guilds.
The weavers were a special group, who realized that they could stop weaving with just plain old cloth, and weave with the very fabric of time and reality instead. This was important, because it gives the game its meaning. The only problem was because they could not marry outside of their guild, there were a lot of stillbirths going around, and a lot of babies were dying young. This was about to create the extinction of the weaver guild, and the Grand Master of the weaver guild was not going to give up the tradition, even to save the guild. They also would not give up the pattern they had all been weaving.
Then one day a lady decided to weave a different pattern, and then she got a son. They were both banished forever, and that is who you are playing with. You were not permitted to learn the mastery of weaving, but your nurse has taught you. Now you must go out and stop the evil bishop who is trying to use the weavers’ magic for evil and to rule the world.
