I never really liked this game myself. The game is very violent and the graphics are very cruel.

The story of this game starts when Johnny Dash his dog Tex is kidnapped by the Count, an evil person. He didn't only kidnapped the dog of Johnny, he also kidnapped hundreds of other pets. There's a friendly monster under Johnny's bed who tells him where Tex is and how he can come there.
He has to go to the Under World for that. Count Chuck wants to turn all the pets into an army of monsters. Johnny will do everything to stop him turning Tex into a monster.

The graphics are nice made although they are a bit violent (see the screenshot). I can't hear the sounds so I'm not sure if there are any, but I think Apogee won't make a game without any sounds. The gameplay is very good too.

Monster Bash is a great 2D game that was released in 1993 for the MS-DOS. It was also developed and published by the Apogee Software.
The main character is Johnny Dash and his dog named Tex was kidnapped and one scary night during a big storm, a monster who hide under Johnny’s bed informs him that that not just his but other pets have also been kidnapped by Count Chuck. Now all these pets are with Count Chuck in his underworld unhappily awaiting their turn to be turned into evil destructive monsters.
Now it’s all up to Johnny Dash to rescue all the pets from the evil scheme of Count Chuck to turn them into evil monsters. The monster under his bed was friendly and with his help Johnny is equipped with a slingshot for a weapon and rocks as ammo. Johnny has a secret passage inside his closet which leads to Count Chuck’s underworld. Now must use it to get to Count Chuck and stop his evil scheme and bring back Tex before its to late. Johnny has to accomplish several levels and in each level save pets from their cages to be able to move on to the next level. Johnny must release all pets from a level if not Johnny will not be allowed to move on to the next level. In each level after rescuing all the pets from there, you must also face the boss for that particular level. The game consists of three episodes with add up to a total of 28 levels.
After completing each level Johnny will regain full health at the beginning of the next level. There are power ups in each level that you can get but only keep during that level and will be take away when you move on to the next level. What makes Monster bash even more fun is the different environment featured for each level. Example of different environments are a castle, in the woods, in graveyards, caves and allsorts of other places. Apart from the enemies, Johnny also receives special items that will help him finish each and every level in the game level.
The game has three different difficulty settings to make the game harder so you can chose the game difficulty based on your capabilities. The enemies in his way include zombies, skeletons, evil witches, vicious werewolves and other monstrous creatures. These creatures make the game more rich even with the dated graphics.
